Library use increased in 2009, particularly in database searching, public internet sessions and circulation. The EMPL website was used 85,443 times. State aid was reduced below budgeted amounts, but local income offset that loss. Hughes library security and safety systems were upgraded thanks to the support of Royal Security, Honeywell Security, Craig and Dorothy Mall and the Greg Moyer Foundation. While this report is filled with numbers, the year was actually filled with people of all ages attending meetings and programs, reading and viewing stories, using computers to communicate, learn and play. EMPL is public service 7 days a week and always online.
