Got Books? ‘07

Summer Reading Program for Teens

Instructions for Teens

How To Start:

·       Pick up a registration packet at your public library. Packets will be available beginning June 11.

·       Fill out the registration form and return it to your library (form is in the registration packet). The official reading log is on the back of the registration form and will be kept at the library.

·       Please register at only ONE location.

·       If you register between June 11 and June 23, you’ll receive a raffle ticket for a special prize drawing.

Then What?

·       Keep track of what and how many pages you read beginning June 11; use the sample log in your registration packet or on the website to keep it all organized.

·       Next time you’re at the library, ask for the reading log binder and copy your entries onto your form.

·       For every two hundred pages you read, you may collect a prize (limit of four prizes per person) AND a drawing entry slip (limit of 10 entries per person).

o       Pick a cool prize from the prize box.

o       Be sure to fill out your drawing entry slip right away and turn it in.

·       Even when you’ve reached your limit of prizes and drawing entry slips, KEEP READING! While it’s fun to read for prizes, it’s even more important to read for your own pleasure and enrichment! Read to feed your brain :).  Congratulate yourself for reading over 2000 pages and keep on going!

What Counts?

·       You can read pretty much anything—books, magazines, graphic novels, stuff from your school’s required summer reading list, even audio-books (ask staff for help if you’re not sure how many pages in an audio-book).

·       Don’t know what to read? Browse the Young Adult Section or ask staff for suggestions. Friends are a great source, too!

·       Only books that you read between June 11 and August 11 count toward the Got Books? program.

Earn More Drawing Entries by Writing Book Reviews:

·       For every two book reviews you write you will earn another drawing entry slip (not to exceed 10 entries, including those received for number of pages read).

·       Book Review Forms are available in the Young Adult Area, or ask library staff for some. Click here for a Book Review form to print from the web.

·       Complete the forms and return them to staff to get your drawing entry slip.

Prize Drawings:

Each library will hold two prize drawings during the summer—one in July and one in August (check the calendar for dates). Some prizes are donated by local businesses. At the end of the program and after the individual library drawings, all of the entry slips from all of the libraries will be entered into a grand prize drawing.

There will be a limit of one prize per person per drawing.

Important Dates:

June 11: Start reading!! Anything you read from this date forward can be entered on your reading log.

June 23: Turn in your registration sheet by this date to be entered in a special prize drawing.

August 11: Last day to make entries in your reading log and to pick up prizes/drawing slips.

Special Events:

Check the calendar to find dates for these events at your library: “Duct Tape Crafts" and “Movie Spoofs.”
