New Play
About German Resistance Highlights Local Author Night
Monday, October 12, 2009
A play based on a true story of German resistance to Nazism
will be one of the new works discussed at the annual local author event on
Monday night at Eastern Monroe Public Library in Stroudsburg. Gihon River Press
of East Stroudsburg published the play Silence
Not a Love Story this year. The play depicts the struggle of Gisa Peiper, a young Jewish woman
who spoke out against Nazism as Hitler was rising to power. Cynthia L. Cooper
of New York City, the author of Silence Not a Love Story, will not be
able to appear on Monday night but her publisher, Steve Feuer,
will speak about the play and how he came to publish it. The authors appearing
on Monday night will be Samuel Clark, Andrea Garrison, and Kamau
Kenyatta. The Crossing Over of Mattie
Pearl by Andrea Garrison (Greetheart Productions,
2008) is the inspirational true story of Mattie Pearl’s death and “crossing
over” to the after life, as told by her daughter Andrea Garrison. Mattie Pearl
gives vivid details about what she sees and hears before she crosses over,
according to Garrison. Samuel Clark’s book, Criminal
Cops: How to Survive Police Misconduct
(Disclosure Research and Publishing, 2007), is based upon his experiences
working as a police officer for the Newark Police Department for more than 25
years. Clark says that he suffered police brutality
while on the Newark police force
and he works as an expert witness for other police officers who have
experienced abuse at work. Kamau Kenyatta, a professor
at William Patterson
University in New
Jersey, will present his book The Confessions of a College Professor, which he describes as “the
ultimate guide to making top grades in your classes.” The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, October 12 in the community
room at the Hughes Library in Stroudsburg. The Hughes Library, located in
Stroudsburg, is the main branch of the Eastern Monroe Public Library.
