In order to allow each patron of the Eastern Monroe Public Library to use its facilities to the fullest extent, the Library Board of Directors adopted the following rules and regulations:
Patrons will:
Engage in activities associated with the use of a public library. Patrons not reading, studying or using library materials appropriately may be required to leave the building.Respect the rights of other library users. Patrons will not harass or annoy others through noisy or boisterous activities or by behaving in a manner which can be reasonably expected to disturb others.
Patrons will not:
Bring food or beverages into any library facility, unless attending a previously approved activity where food/beverages are served;Smoke or use tobacco or tobacco products;
Be under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
Engage in any illegal activity while in the library building;
Interfere with the use of the library by other patrons, or interfere with the performance of their duties by library employees;
Deface or mar library materials. Patrons will not deface, mar or in any way destroy or damage the buildings, books, magazines, newspapers, recordings or other items of the library collection, library furnishings, wahs, machines, vehicles or other library property. Violators will be subject to prosecution.
Enter a library building or vehicle without being fully clothed. Patrons must wear a covering of their upper bodies and shoes or other footwear. Patrons whose hygiene is offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other library users may be required to leave the building.
Bring pets or animals into a library facility, other than service animals for the physically or mentally challenged or for a scheduled library program.
Each patron will be responsible for fines, fees or other charges due in accordance with the library's standard schedules. Failure to pay these fines will result in suspension of borrowing privileges.
Materials removed from the library must be checked out on a valid
library card
Patrons who do not abide by these or other rules and regulations of the library may be required to leave the library premises and, where appropriate, may be subject to prosecution. Library employees may contact local police if it is deemed advisable.
Any patron who violates these rules and regulations may be denied the privilege of access to the Library System by the Library's Board of Trustees, on the recommendation of the Library Director. A patron whose privileges have been denied may have the decision reviewed by the Board of Trustees.
